About

GOLDEN I: For first year journalism excellence at UQ.

Golden I is a peer-reviewed award to celebrate investigative journalism. Launched in 2013, in the School of Journalism and Communication at the University of Queensland, the award seeks to showcase the investigative reporting skills of students in a first year journalism course dedicated to promoting the value of investigative journalism. This year 16 finalists will vie for the honour of being the winner of Golden I. The finalists were selected from 30 short-listed investigative features.

Each feature had to be centred on the theme ‘Human Tragedy’ and include a data visualisation. This year’s work was outstanding and we congratulate all the finalists on their impressive work. The work of all the finalists has been de-identified. The stories have been placed on the Golden I nominee page, in no particular order.
